A recent WPC Group survey completed in May 2010 showed that when looking at future employment opportunities, 64.9% of respondents would select an employer with a strong commitment to the environment and sustainability to one that did not. Over 32.5% stated that they would consider this when making a decision about employment. Only 2.6% of respondents had no interest.
Over 63.7% of people who completed the survey are currently seeking an apprenticeship or traineeship. Employers should take note: “young people are interested in your companies environmental and sustainability commitment” Nicholas Wyman, CEO of WPC Group Green skills said.
“Why not use this interest to engage people and drive your companies’ productivity”. Some of the survey respondents commented;
“In my opinion, Sustainability is the quality of life in a community. Whether the economic, social and environmental systems that make up the community are providing a healthy, productive, meaningful life for all community residents, present and future”.
“It’s wonderful to see people caring more about our planet. I was born a greenie and am excited by being an example of the change I wish to see to my children and am looking to include that ethic in my work life”.
“We need a future world to live in for ourselves and all the future generations”.
“We need more public transport by having new train stations, trams and bus stops in new suburbs”.

The competition winner was Kirsten Fraser. Kirsten completed the survey form to win WPCGroup competition on Green initiatives. Kirsten is a huge AFL fan and plans to purchase tickets to the Lions matches with her prize. Kirsten admitted that she hadn’t thought too much about the environment prior to completing the survey but is now more aware of some of the issues affecting our environment like littering, electrical consumption and minerals & gas resources. Kirsten is very keen to start a traineeship in either business administration or hospitality within the hotel/club sectors as she enjoys customer contact roles. She has completed year 11 in 2009 and we feel extremely positive that WPC will place Kirsten in her desired field soon.
