Greenskills aims to build effective, vibrant, cross-sector partnerships that actively engage workers with employers and other relevant green focussed groups. Greenskills is Australia's first initiative that incorporates sustainability into every day practice through dedicated training programs. Skills for sustainability are critical for the success of the economy’s future. Understanding and embracing issues around climate change will create job opportunities. Workforce development is critical for the success of any organisation and an individual’s future.

With assistance from the Government, WPC Group has launched Australia’s first youth based employment program dedicated to implementing training programs and developing work related skills with a sustainability focus. Greenskills offers training, mentoring and work placement opportunities for young Australians as they make the critical transition from school to work.

Researching Skills in 2013: Churchill Fellowship

WPC Group CEO Nicholas Wyman was presented with the 2012 Park Family Churchill Fellowship by The Governor of Victoria Alex Chernov recently.

Nicholas is particularly interested in the challenges companies face in finding and developing skilled employees.  Nicholas will be researching and reporting on youth unemployment and the transition between school and the world of work in Australia, Germany, France, the UK and the Netherlands. He also intends to see how these countries have embraced Sustainability in Apprenticeships and Traineships.  Other Churchill fellows for 2012 include Mr William Thomas who will investigate sustainability education and sustainability practice with emphasis on water, waste, energy and biodiversity – Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland.

 

Nicholas Wyman awarded Park Family Churchill Fellowship 2012

The Churchill Trust was established in 1965 to honour the memory of Sir Winston Churchill by awarding overseas research Fellowships known as 'Churchill Fellowships'. Later this month, The  Honourable Alex Chernov AC QC will present the award at Government House. 

Nicholas' research focus will be comparing and contrasting two mid range and two low range European Union Countries who face similar challenges to Australia. Nicholas is looking for a New Approach to Engaging Young Australians in Skilled Careers. Nicholas said 'It's through the generosity of The Park Family, who share a passion for the study of issues relating to vocational training that make fellowships like this available'. The ‘green economy’ will grow through the creation and expansion of innovative organisations that offer solutions based on new cultures, new skill sets, and efficient technologies.

There are three drivers for this innovation: global warming and measures to address climate change - decarbonisation of the economy; customer demand for products and services that minimise their environmental footprint - supply chain solutions for mitigating risk and enhancing reputational value and; the need to restore and rehabilitate environmental mistakes of the past. These drivers will give rise to real employment opportunities.
